Hayden BooksAlthough our schedule for the second edition of Internet
Starter Kit for Windows was foiled by Microsoft's August, 1995 release of Windows
95, we did get a Windows 95 version of the book out. It finally came out in December,
which was quite a bit too late to benefit fully from the added marketing push that
accompanied basically every Windows 95 book that tried to come out simultaneously
with Windows 95.
Nonetheless, Internet Starter Kit for Windows 95 sold well, if not up to the levels
of the first edition of Internet Starter Kit for Windows.
Again, there was a glut of Windows Internet books on the market, and it was simply
too hard to break through.
Because it was based on the third edition of Internet Starter
Kit for Macintosh, this book has aged a bit better than the second edition of
Internet Starter Kit for Windows. Even still, it isn't anywhere near up to date,
especially considering the massive rewrite I did for the fourth
edition of Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh that was never reflected in a Windows
version.
I doubt there will ever be an updated version of Internet Starter Kit for Windows
95 or a box version - by the time this came out, the staff at Hayden had completely
turned over and the sales weren't up to previous levels, making additional work and
investment seem less than worthwhile.
