NEW ELECTRONIC PUBLICATION -- NetBITS -- LAUNCHED BY PRODUCERS OF TidBITS

-- Savvy, Practical Internet News You Can Use for the Personal and Professional Computer User --

ISSAQUAH, WA, September 26, 1997 - TidBITS Electronic Publishing today unveiled a new Internet publication, NetBITS, as the Internet-centric sister publication to award-winning TidBITS, one of the largest, original, purely electronic publications on the Internet. Free to subscribers, NetBITS is available today at http://www.netbits.net/ and will expand on the practical, informative, high-credibility editorial perspective TidBITS has built for the Macintosh-specific market to include news and information about the Internet as a whole. NetBITS will succinctly present information needed by anyone who spends significant amounts of time on the Internet whether for professional or personal reasons.

NetBITS will be driven by the editorial vision of Internet expert Glenn Fleishman, who started one of the first Web hosting companies; has served as a senior manager at Amazon.com; and has written extensively in the past about important Internet issues for InfoWorld, NetGuide, Adobe Magazine, and Web Developer magazine.

"With hundreds of TidBITS issues under our belt, we've already proven that publishing on the Internet can be profitable over the long term," explained Adam Engst, publisher of NetBITS and TidBITS. "NetBITS has been percolating in the backs of our minds for some time now. Glenn's expertise and talent are poised to make it an engaging reality."

PRACTICAL INTERNET INFORMATION

While other publications focus on perishable news items, enormous product round-ups, or highly technical information of interest only to developers, NetBITS aims to meet the practical informational needs of all Internet users who spend significant amounts of time on the Internet for personal or professional reasons. Much like TidBITS, NetBITS will analyze the news, reporting on only Internet announcements and issues that actually affect users, and will provide practical articles on a wide range of pertinent topics.

"One TidBITS reader recently commented that some people don't believe anything until they see the press release, but he doesn't believe it until it makes TidBITS," commented Fleishman, editor-in-chief of NetBITS. "We hope to bring that kind of editorial integrity to the Internet community as a whole and enjoy the high level of confidence that Mac users enjoy with TidBITS."

"We do more than merely report the news and instead try to offer some context or analysis so you can get a better sense of what it all means," commented Engst. "And, sometimes we ignore events because we don't want to clutter your brains with useless information. I believe that's what sets a publication apart from a stream of raw data."

Articles planned for early issues include realistic advice parents and teachers can give kids who use the Internet; hidden features in Eudora for Windows and Macintosh; a look at legal issues on the Internet beyond pornography and cryptography; and a review of the @Home Internet cable network trials. Regular features will include a Q&A column, letters to the editor, and detailed reviews of Web sites that offer more than light entertainment value.
